I am a full-time dental hygienist, an athlete, and a mother of 2 busy young boys. Having a chunk of time devoted to writing at my desk is rare. So I find it helpful to utilize the time I do have. For me, a few minutes of writing time is valuable. I call these Gold Nuggets! You can find them too.
I thought it would be fun to share with you my Gold Nuggets. I don't have to be at my desk in front of a computer creating stories. As long as I have my notebook, I can write anywhere. Unlike a laptop or an iPad, I don't need to worry about running out of batteries. I can stick my notebook in my purse. I can even fold up a sheet of paper and stick it in my pocket when I'm running so when inspiration strikes, I’m ready.
As you will see below, the world is my office. I must say that my office has the best view and it is ever-changing.
My desk at home. Unfortunately, I share the desk with my husband. Hence, the clutter.
After the kids are tucked into bed, I spend a few minutes, sometimes an hour, writing before going to sleep.
This is the lunchroom where I work. I have an hour of lunchtime to eat and write.
Sometimes I'd get to my kids' school early so I have a parking space and a few minutes of quiet time in my car to write.
While my kids are at the library doing their homework, I'm doing mines too!
My boys' sporting activities keep my schedule full. There's always an opportune time to write during practices, before the start of a game, and at half time.
What's better than a nice long run to get my creative juices flowing. This is where I get most of my story ideas. I love living on the coast!
And of course, when your schedule is too hectic to find time to write, a vacation is the best prescription. Vacations offer ample writing time. This is the best gold nugget I could find- in Hawaii!
Whatever your schedule may be, I'm sure you'll be able to find gold nuggets in your day. If I can, you can too!

You are one busy lady! I see you use composition books - those are my favorite. Last year Walmart had them for $.25! Hey, when's your book coming out?
ReplyDeleteWhen is my book coming out? That's a good question... The illustrator is working on it as we speak.
DeleteLove it! I love notebooks too and have them strewn everywhere!
ReplyDeleteComposition books are great. I like to use the voice recorder on my phone when I'm out and about as a way to keep track of suddent inspiration.
ReplyDeleteVoice recorders! I've thought of that. But for me, it takes too much effort to transcribe my recordings.
DeleteLoved your photos in this post...great perspective of what you view as you write. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna. My pleasure. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI have learned to carry a notebook - and my Nook - with me for those free minutes waiting for my kids, too. But wow. You must be really good at juggling your schedule! I'm always amazed at mothers who work full-time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. I try. I just wish there are more hours in a day!
DeleteLove it. I still prefer to type on my computer and see typed words, but if I know I am going to have time at the kids' practices, drs appts then I make sure to print out a copy and take it with me.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to print out a copy from my computer. Keeps my eyesight keen! That's good that you take yours with you on your errands. That's productivity.
DeleteYou make excellent use for your time Romelle. It's usually during those in-between times that good ideas come.
ReplyDeleteSo true Donna. Thanks for stopping by!
